In case of a disaster such as an earthquake you can use the service of 171 provided by NTT, NIPPON TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE.

Composing this number you can leave informations about yourself, and consult informations about others.



In order to provide information about yourself do as following :
1- Dial 171
2- After the message press 1
3- Enter your phone number, including your area code (this works either for you mobile or home phone).
4- after the isntructions record your message stating your location, condition and intentions.
5- Hang up.

To find about people you know on the system :
1- Dial 171
2- after the message press 2
3- enter the phone number of the person you want news of (either mobile or home phone)
4- Listen to the message left by the person.

This service is available only when disaster occours.
But NTT provide trial period as follows.
1. 1st of every month
2. disaster-prevention week(30th August to 5th September）
3. disaster-prevention and volunteer week (15th January to 21st January)

AMDA (The Association of Medical Doctors of Asia) International Medical Information Center Kansai Branch is an organization which conducts medical counseling for foreigners. Staff can explain the medical system and introduce English-speaking doctors.

If you need emergency medical care on Sundays, national holidays, during the end and beginning of the year or during late night/early morning hours, go to an After Hours Emergency Medical Care Center.
Information on Emergency Department of Hospitals
In instances where you don't consider the situation to be an emergency, but nonetheless need to find a doctor, please phone the hotline below. These hotlines are also the source of information in cases where a family member has been conveyed to a hospital by an ambulance and you need to find out which hospital they are now in.
You also have to use this number in case of fire. It will connect you to the firemen station.
