Gambate Celio !
On 12.9 Sat I went to Ohtsuki Noh Theatre to watch No Play "Dojoji" and to work as an interpreter in back stage tour. This is my second time to watch Dojoji. Last time was on 11th last month.
As I studied the story scene by scene, I could enjoyed the play a lot more than last time. Bunzo sensei is a wonderful noh actor. Shirabyoshi, a female dancer in act 1, turns into a demon snake in act 2. Her deep love made her into a awful big snake but still her feelings toward the bell(simbolized a monk she loved) didn't disappear. Bunzo sensei expressed this feeling wonderfuly even over a hannya mask. That was beautiful and sad at the same time.
It is difficult to understand without knowing the outline of the play. It could be harder for foreigners. This time we prepare English version of the outline and Ohtsuki Noh Theatre invited some professors and students from Kansai Gaidai. It seems they enjoyed the play a lot and impressed by it.
After the play, there is a special back stage tour, which is useally not held. As I speak a bit of Enlish and taking care of their website, I served as interpreter for the back stage tour.Ms. Shimizu from Ohtsuki Noh Theatre explained noh theatre itself and showed back side of the stage including "Kagamino-ma", the mirror room and anterooms for players. More than 10 people joined this tour and everybody seemed impressed and interested by the tour and Noh itself.
I couldn't express well everything that Ms. Shimizu explained but at least people got some idea from what I told them and it was a great honor to do something. After this tour I felt the need to brush up my English skills...
There will be another play with English ourline of the play and back stage tour. I'll announce that on this blog in advance.

I've visited Tenjin-san Flea Market at Kitano Shrine.People sell antique and second hand Kimonos & Obis, ceramics, ethnic goods, food, furniture, swords and just about anything else you can imagine. You can get a Kimono or a Obi for 1,000 yen! Obi could be a good souvenir to decorate your table.
Some sellers do speak English a little. You can try to negotiate to have some discount. If you haven't visited this nice and cheap place to get stuff, I strongly recommend to have a look! You might be amazed. There are more variety shops than you can imagine.
